In a surprise move, Amazon Australia has begun quietly rolling out Afterpay as a payment option — without so much as an official announcement.
Reports of the change first began appearing in an AfterPay Facebook community earlier today, with members sharing screenshots showing Afterpay available during checkout. The rollout isn’t yet available for everyone, but it appears to be happening in batches.
We contacted Amazon Australia directly to confirm the development, and an Amazon spokesperson verified that Afterpay is indeed being introduced as a permanent payment option. The rollout is currently in progress and will continue to expand until all customers have access.
For many in the handheld gaming space, this is particularly welcome news. We often hear from readers who wish Amazon supported Afterpay, as it makes big-ticket purchases — like handheld consoles and their accessories — more financially accessible. In our own buyer’s guides, Amazon is frequently listed as the top retailer thanks to its consistently low prices, extensive range, and industry-leading customer support and return policies.
With Afterpay now entering the mix, Amazon’s value proposition for gamers just got even stronger. If you don’t see the option yet, keep checking back — it could appear in your account any day now.
